Junction Pool Recreation Site

What Is Junction Pool Recreation Site

Junction Pool Recreation Site is a small free campground next to the junction of where the Adam River meets the Eve River. The campground has 5 campsites, 1 pit toilet, picnic tables and fire rings. There is also an overflow area to camp in if necessary. A wide area exists at the end of the road which had more than enough room for me to turn around with my pickup camper and utility trailer.

There is some nice sized trees in the forest surrounding the campground down to the river’s edge. A trail leads to the Eve River and follows it north. I didn’t follow it to the end so not sure how far it goes. If you want to fish the pool at the far edge of the river bring your waders as it is about 50 yards away from the trail.

Looks to me like over the years the build up of gravel/rocks from the freshets every year has filled in the original size of the pool. There is a good drop off next to the gravel bar where the pool begins. I’d guess the pool length is roughly 100+ yards to the bend in the river.

The campsite is managed by Recreation Sites and Trails BC. While I was there I didn’t see them but I was only there 1 night.

Where Is Junction Pool Recreation Site Located

Find your way to Vancouver Island British Columbia, Canada and make your way up island. From Campbell River head north to Sayward and then another 27 km to the Eve River Main road and turn right. Along the way you will pass Montague Creek Recreation Site 2km in.

Go another 14 km and turn right at the East Main junction across from Palmerston Main. The sign is hard to see until you make the turn onto East Main. Another km and you’re there.

The Eve River Main was in great shape because they are actively logging in the area. Drive carefully though as always it is better to be safe than sorry. Especially on gravel roads where anything can happen in logging country.

Further down the road is the E&N Hook Up Road which takes you to Naka Creek Recreation Site. Another very beautiful Vancouver Island Campground located on the ocean at Johnstone Strait.

Fishing At Junction Pool Campground

I didn’t try my luck at fishing because I was only staying one night although I will be back in the future to try wading to the pool and tossing a line. If you have fished this pool let me know in the comments below on your success or lack thereof. I am interested to know how fishy it is.

Summing Up My Visit To Junction Pool Recreation Site

All in all from what I could see during my limited stay, the campground is used predominately by hunters in the spring and fall. But don’t let that deter you from stopping by as that pool in the river looks very fishy to me. The old Growth forest with mixed second growth is worth the visit also.

I heard the usual wildlife sounds from birds like Robins, Thrushes, Woodpeckers and Grouse. I also saw signs of Elk and deer based on the tracks in the dried up mud. Definitely bear in the area as it is too close to the river not to be. Lots of grass around for them to eat also in the spring after hibernation. The usual Salmon Berry and Huckle Berry bushes everywhere too.

I will be back in the future to spend a few days so I can get a better picture of what it is like to camp there. I look forward to trying my luck in the river with my fly fishing gear.

Campfire Etiquette Every Camper Should Adhere To

Don’t forget to be a responsible camper and pack out what you pack in along with anyone’s garbage left behind if you can. Also remember that campfire etiquette is a must to ensure this pristine wilderness remains as is. Never be a lazy camper it just isn’t worth it.

The law states that you keep a shovel and 20 litre pail of water nearby in case sparks land on the many grasses and pine needles etc that are around the campground area. Never leave a campfire unattended for any reason and ensure it is out before going to bed and leaving for home.

For more information on the current status of campfires and bans visit the BC Wildfire Service.
