Petite Gosling Recreation Site

What Is Petite Gosling Recreation Site

Petite Gosling Recreation Site is a free single campsite with a large area for extra campers if in a small group. There is one pit toilet, one picnic table and one fire pit. There is beach access but no boat launch. Launching a car topper is doable. A small lane just before the main area to the left also serves as a campsite with access to the pit toilet.

I have been here a number of times as I like the fact that if or when I want to camp alone I can come here and do so. In the past I’ve had other campers show up and ask if they can share the campsite with me and I have said yes.

The sunrises and sunsets are gorgeous and definitely worth the visit alone. As for wildlife, I have seen Loons, Mergansers, Owls, Kingfishers, and Eagles. No large animals yet though.

Where Is Petite Gosling Located

Petite Gosling Recreation Site is located along the Northwestern edge of Lower Campbell Lake. There are roughly 8 campgrounds in a 14km stretch starting with Loveland Bay. Some are fee based but most are free. One is even a group only campground.

Drive to Campbell River on Vancouver Island, British Columbia Canada. From there head towards Sayward. For now you’ll need to follow the signs that say “Alternate Route” to Loveland Bay. Roughly 7-8km you will see an industrial area and Duncan Bay Road. Turn left here and follow it for about 3 km and stay left. Here the road turns into Gordon Road.

Follow Gordon Road until it comes to a junction where Brewster Main meets with it. You’ll see a forestry nursery on your left. Turn left and go until you see the alternate route sign and another large green sign with directions to recreation sites. Turn right here and go 11km and turn left onto Campbell Main. Loveland Bay is here also just to your left.

This junction is ground zero for Campbell Main and go another 5.75 km and you will see a small road to your left. In the tree above you’ll see a Petite Gosling sign. The road in is only a few hundred feet but it is better to walk in to see if there is anyone there in case you cannot turn around.

An alternate way to access the area is to head in the direction of Sayward for roughly 12 to 14 kilometres, then take a left onto Iron River Road. Continue along this road for about 4 kilometres before making a right onto Snowden Forest Road. Follow Snowden for approximately 9 to 10 kilometres until you reach the junction with Brewster Road at Loveland Bay, where the route becomes Campbell Lake Main. From there, drive to around the 5.75 kilometre marker and take the left turn.

Summing Up Petite Gosling Campground

Petite Gosling Recreation Site is a definite go to campsite. The sun hits it most of the day during the summer and there is enough room for a small group ie: family/friends. I have stayed here a lot over the years and will keep visiting it when I can. It is very easy to drag my car top boat to the water and from there go fishing in Campbell Lake.

Fishing in Campbell Lake is great with some very nice sized Cutthroat Trout for the taking. I believe my biggest is roughly 5 lbs but I have caught 2-3 lbs consistently also. My preferred method of fishing is to troll a gang troll rig with a worm. I have also caught some nice fish on a fly in front of Gosling Creek just east of Petite Gosling.
